As we reach the end of Term 3 there are many highlights where students have had amazing opportunities to do their best.
Year 4 and Year 5 Camps
A big thank you to teachers and teacher aides who made up the year 5 and year 4 camp teams. The Tinana SS community is very fortunate to have staff who can be away from their families to take out camps in years 4, 5 and 6. Thank you to the P&C Association for their subsidy support for camps.
Tinana Live! ’25.
This annual event is a celebration of extra-curricular Performing activities and the Instrumental Music program. What a wonderful opportunity for all students and made possible through many hours of work in these programs and a big day of rehearsal yesterday. A big congratulations to the award winners from Senior Performance Team, Strings, and Band.
Thank you to the Music Team; Ms Shaw (Senior Performance Team, Mrs Richardson (Band) and Mrs Robinson (Strings). HOD Inclusion Mrs Quinn who coaches students for speech and drama. Thank you also to Mrs Hooper as Stage Manager, assisted by past student volunteers and year 6 students. This year the backstage supervision and support team which this year was made up of Mr Marler, Mrs Topper, Mrs Madden, Mrs Ascough and Ms Kirsty. All families of our performers should be very proud of their efforts on stage and off stage during rehearsals and performance.
Our appreciation also goes to the Fraser Coast Shire Council for making the Brogla Theatre available for school events like these. Lastly a big thank you to Ms Shaw for coordinating such a memorable event.
Yearbook Pre-order
Over the last few weeks, the Yearbook coordinator Mrs Naomi Scanes has been photographing students who have participated in representative sports in 2025. All families received an optional invoice to pay if they wish to purchase a 2025 Yearbook. After the pre-order closing date, any unpaid invoices will be cancelled.
I wish all our families and staff a very restful holiday. We look forward to seeing students on Tuesday October 7.
Regards
Janet Austen

MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL
Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school for any purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the office and is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade and particular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly marked on the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are available at the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to deposit the funds directly into the school bank account are requested to advise the office of the deposit and to use the student surname and invoice number as the payment reference. As large amounts of money pass through the school office it becomes difficult and time consuming to identify payments without this information.
Invoices via Email
You should now be receiving all your child’s invoices via email. If you need to provide the office with an updated email address, please do so as soon as possible, as some school notes and information will also be sent via email.
REFLECTION LETTERS are also being sent out via e-mail.
ABSENCES
Please Phone 4120 8066 and leave a message on the Absence Line in the event of a student being absent. Please phone each day your child is absent from school unless the office has been previously advised of the absence. Verbal messages by the student are not sufficient. This prevents any misunderstanding and ensures the safety of your child. Please note that, by law, we are required to report any long term unexplained absences from school which may then be investigated by the police.
LATE ARRIVAL
The school day begins at 8:45am and all staff will begin instruction at this time. Arrivals after 8:45am are considered to be late. Late arrival should be accompanied by a note but parents may ring the office with this information. Students must first report to the office to obtain a late slip that is to be given to their teacher.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Please be aware that there are NO staff members on duty before 8 am. We have more students arriving before this time. If there is a legitimate reason for students to be at school before 8am, then contact the office to make arrangements. These students must then follow the rules by sitting quietly at the far end of the Administration Building.
SMS NOTIFICATION
The school is now utilising an SMS system to notify parents of any unexplained absence. If you receive a text message stating your child’s absence is unexplained, you can reply via text, stating your child’s name, and reason for absence. If you believe your child should be present at school, please phone the office immediately on 4120 8000.
EARLY DEPARTURE
Children leaving school early must be picked up from the office. Parents may ring in advance to arrange for their child/ren to be ready for collection, or send a note to the class teacher. Your child will be given an early departure slip from the office. Please minimise disruptions to teaching and learning by organising early departures in advance and for break times.
Student Attendance - Same Day Absence Notification
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and for the Queensland Government.
At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parent or carer via text message when a student's absence is unexplained after the first roll marking of the day.
As home and school work together, student safety will be increased. Here are some guidelines to make this process more efficient:
- Notify the school by phone, QParents or email before 9:00am if your student is going to be absent that day. Please give a brief explanation for the absence.
- If you receive a text message regarding an unexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text, QParents or phone call.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone number and other contact details are up-to-date on the school records. This is critical, as we need to be able to contact you in case of emergency.
- If your student arrives late to school, they must go to the office for a late pass before going to their classroom. If they are leaving early, a leave pass must be obtained from the office.
Attention Parents & Caregivers.

2026 Requests for Educational Settings & Class Planning
This week parents and caregivers are able to download a form to provide feedback to assist with class planning for 2026. If students will be moving from Tinana State School at the end of the year (other than Year 6) we ask that the school be advised via this form. There is also a section for preference for educational settings.
The placement of children in an appropriate learning environment is taken very seriously at Tinana and there are many elements to take into consideration. One of the factors relates to parent/carer preferences for a particular educational environment. Parents have the opportunity to put in writing educational reasons for a specific learning environment. Whilst all requests will be considered it may not be possible to fill all preferences. Parent preferences are for placement in a learning environment and NOT for a specific teacher, as teachers for year levels will not be decided until all staffing at the school has been finalised. Requests must be in writing and need to be addressed to the ‘Principal’ and handed into the office or email to principal@tinanass.eq.edu.au. These forms are due by Wednesday, October 8. No late requests will be accepted.

Parent volunteers welcome for helping on the night with door supervisors, canteen and sausage sizzle etc.
Hi everyone,
Well some great news, the Tuckshop is due to be completed this week, woohoo. It will still be a couple of weeks into term 4 before it reopens, as it all has to be reorganised, set-up and stocked again.
We are in need of some more volunteers and this is the perfect timing. Tuckshop is a great way to help the school, meet new people, chat with other parents and very importantly, be a hero to your children/grandchildren. It's not a difficult job I promise, Please message us if you are interested. If you know a current tuckshop volunteer, ask them what it's like.
As you maybe aware, to coincide with the Refurb, we are also renaming the tuckshop. This is opened to Staff and Students and the entry forms and boxes are located outside 1S and in the Library,
the winner will receive a $15 tuckshop credit.
