Ms Shaw has been preparing the Senior Performance Team and Mrs Richardson and Mrs Robinson have been preparing senior instrumental students for their individual and group competitions.
As the Eisteddfod has a no-photography rule, there is will be some rehearsal performances at school and a chance for parents and carers to take photos. Please see the date claimers
Staff Updates
Mrs Mcnamee or 'Mrs Mac' as she is known to students has taken up HPE for Prep-6. We welome Ms Sydney Gane as teacher of 5M for Semester 2.
Bully Zero Workshop for Parents/Carers
A valuable opportunity is being provided to parents/carers of our schools within the the North Coast Region of the Dept of Education, to participate in a free face-to-face 1.5-hour workshop facilitated by Bully Zero, a leading bully prevention organisation. The workshop Bully Zero, is designed to proactively support parents to understand what bullying is and what parents can do to support their children to be safe both online and when face to face with their peers.
The attached flyer provides information regarding locations, inclusive of the online option and how to register for the workshops. Participants must register for the workshops.
The annual Community Golf Day for the Tinana SS P&C Association will take place on August 10. On behalf of the school community I would like to thank Port City Autos for coming on board as the Gold Sponsor for the event. The P&C Association welcomes raffle prize donations which will be drawn at the golf day. Tickets will become available on QKR! in coming weeks and at selected school events.
This is a four-person Ambrose event so a great opportunity for some relaxed exercise and a chance to win raffle prizes. The P&C Association is still seeking businesses to sponsor some of the 18 holes so please see the sponsor letter later in the newsletter.
There is also a great need for volunteers to make this event work. Even if you can also spare an hour for BBQ the day before or on the day, please complete the volunteer form below.
School Planning
This week parents/carers will be receiving an email invitation for the 2025 School Opinion Survey. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey. It is used to inform school planning each year as it captures feedback from students, parents and staff. All year 5 and 6 students will also been sent an email and will complete this at school with Mr Marler and their class teacher.

MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL
Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school for any purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the office and is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade and particular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly marked on the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are available at the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to deposit the funds directly into the school bank account are requested to advise the office of the deposit and to use the student surname and invoice number as the payment reference. As large amounts of money pass through the school office it becomes difficult and time consuming to identify payments without this information.
Invoices via Email
You should now be receiving all your child’s invoices via email. If you need to provide the office with an updated email address, please do so as soon as possible, as some school notes and information will also be sent via email.
REFLECTION LETTERS are also being sent out via e-mail.
ABSENCES
Please Phone 4120 8066 and leave a message on the Absence Line in the event of a student being absent. Please phone each day your child is absent from school unless the office has been previously advised of the absence. Verbal messages by the student are not sufficient. This prevents any misunderstanding and ensures the safety of your child. Please note that, by law, we are required to report any long term unexplained absences from school which may then be investigated by the police.
LATE ARRIVAL
The school day begins at 8:45am and all staff will begin instruction at this time. Arrivals after 8:45am are considered to be late. Late arrival should be accompanied by a note but parents may ring the office with this information. Students must first report to the office to obtain a late slip that is to be given to their teacher.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Please be aware that there are NO staff members on duty before 8 am. We have more students arriving before this time. If there is a legitimate reason for students to be at school before 8am, then contact the office to make arrangements. These students must then follow the rules by sitting quietly at the far end of the Administration Building.
SMS NOTIFICATION
The school is now utilising an SMS system to notify parents of any unexplained absence. If you receive a text message stating your child’s absence is unexplained, you can reply via text, stating your child’s name, and reason for absence. If you believe your child should be present at school, please phone the office immediately on 4120 8000.
EARLY DEPARTURE
Children leaving school early must be picked up from the office. Parents may ring in advance to arrange for their child/ren to be ready for collection, or send a note to the class teacher. Your child will be given an early departure slip from the office. Please minimise disruptions to teaching and learning by organising early departures in advance and for break times.
Student Attendance - Same Day Absence Notification
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and for the Queensland Government.
At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parent or carer via text message when a student's absence is unexplained after the first roll marking of the day.
As home and school work together, student safety will be increased. Here are some guidelines to make this process more efficient:
- Notify the school by phone, QParents or email before 9:00am if your student is going to be absent that day. Please give a brief explanation for the absence.
- If you receive a text message regarding an unexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text, QParents or phone call.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone number and other contact details are up-to-date on the school records. This is critical, as we need to be able to contact you in case of emergency.
- If your student arrives late to school, they must go to the office for a late pass before going to their classroom. If they are leaving early, a leave pass must be obtained from the office.

EISTEDDFOD:
Rehearsals are in full swing and all classes are doing so well. School, like life, is a mosaic of all kinds of activities that add colour and meaning to our world. Some of these activities are enjoyable, and others are best known as ‘learning experiences.’ While the Eisteddfod isn’t every students ‘cup of tea,’ it provides the students with an opportunity to put our You Can Do It ‘Keys to Success’ into practice. Students are all given practical strategies on how to manage nerves in stressful situations. I would encourage you when extracurricular events such as the Eisteddfod, school camps and other excursions arise, to encourage your child’s participation. These are wonderful learning opportunities afforded to our students thanks to our dedicated teaching staff.
Practical details, dates and information:
Class performances are Monday 4th August. Students will be asked to wear their red Tinana School Shirt, black shorts/skirt/pants and black shoes (where possible) with white socks. It would be extra special if girls with long hair could consider red/black ribbons or hair accessories.
Filming and photography of any kind won’t be allowed in the Brolga. If you would like to attend the performance to support your child, I would recommend you purchase a session ticket from the Brolga before the performance day to avoid delays and possible disappointment on the day.
This year we will be hosting our own school performance the Friday 1st August in the school hall from 2-3pm. This will be a free event, photography will be allowed and it will allow all students to view the performances of their peers. The usual social media restrictions will apply to any sharing of the footage that you record on the Friday event.
Performance times and details:
Date: Monday August 4th in the Main Auditorium at 9 am.
Tickets: It is recommended that you pre-purchase your tickets to avoid the possible disappointment of missing your child’s performance.
Have a great week.

Year 6 Cyber Safety Awareness Presentation
Thursday 24th of July at 2pm – Parents Welcome!
Year 6 Parents and Carers are invited to attend our Year 6 Cyber Safety awareness presentation – Think U Know which will be held on Thursday 24th of July at 2pm in the hall. This presentation will be presented by the Queensland Police Service. Think U Know is an evidence-based education program led by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), delivered nationally in partnership with police and industry partners to prevent online child sexual exploitation. The program incorporates up-to-date research, real case studies and examples from reports made to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation. The program is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated online child sexual exploitation material, online grooming, image-based abuse, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour.
The program helps parents, carers and teachers get a better understanding of the types of things that child and young people SEE, SAY and DO online. For more information feel free to contact Mr Marler at the school.
Reminder to Parents/Carers wanting to enrol your child for Prep 2026 that our numbers are filling up fast.
If you have not yet made contact with the school about enrolling your child for Prep 2026 please call the office 4120 8000 . There has once again been strong interest in out of catchment places and it is anticipated that Out of Catchment for Prep 2026 will need to close at the end of July. Out of catchment enrolment details for existing siblings must be received by July 24 to secure a place.
Please note that under the TSS Enrolment Management Plan siblings of out of catchment enrolled students must still go through the out of catchment enrolment process.
It is essential that existing parents/carers start the out of catchment process as soon as possible to ensure their Prep 2026 student does not miss out on a place.
Where did that 1st half of the year go? I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and are settling in to term 3 nicely.
Tuckshop is going to be a bit different this term, the Refurb is scheduled to start mid August so there is a bit of packing to do in the meantime.
We are planning to offer a set meal deal during the closure and are going to start trialling it this Friday. We are starting with a sandwich + gingerbread man + popper. This will be limited to 100 orders at this point. The deal is on Qkr and orders close Tuesday morning to ensure required stock can be collected on time.
Thank you so much for the continuing support of our Tuckshop.
Brett
