As we wrap up another productive semester, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of our students. Their engagement and effort in classroom and extra-curricular activities has been commendable. This leads to a growth mindset where, at this time of semester, students can talk about something that they have achieved or improved. Of equal importance, it leads to students experiencing a sense of community as they work with peers and staff on a variety of class and extra-curricular activities.
This week we have had students at Cluster strings workshops and on Friday 9-12 year olds will compete in the Senior Athletics at Jock Anderson Oval. If students need to catch the bus from school they need to be ready for the bus departure at 8.20am.
Semester Progress Reports
Reports will be emailed to parents/carers on the first Tuesday of Term 3 (July 15). This is also when students will take home any academic, effort or attendance awards they have received.  The report card will also note absences. This is an important piece of information, particularly if it has been a semester of higher absences due to family or health factors.  These can have an increasing impact over time.  By the time they reach  the end of Year 3 , some students may have missed up to a term of school due to regular late or early departures or averages as little as one day away per fortnight.
CCTV
This policy was tabled at this week’s P&C meeting and is available at the front office. The cameras cover entries and exits on all sides of the school.Â
Looking Ahead
Term 3 commences on Monday July 14.   This newsletter also contains ordering information ahead of School Photo Day on July 22.  We will quickly be into preparations for the school team to go to District Athletics and then a variety of groups and individual students will be participating in the Eisteddfod. Years 4 and 5 also have their camps to look forward to.  Finally, Tinana Live! will once again be staged at the Brolga Theatre.
Later in this newsletter you will see some details about the upcoming tuckshop refurbishment which is also on the calendar for Term 3. This was discussed at last night's P&C Meeting. The major fundraising event for the Association is the annual Golf Day on Sunday 10 August. Please find below a volunteer form for parent contribution to BBQ prep the day before or helping out during the day. Any queries re volunteering at this event should go to ( pand C email).Â
Due to volunteers being away during Term 3 there is also assistance being sought to coordinate the Fathers' Day Stall ( September 2,3,4 before school). The next P&C Meeting will be Tuesday July 29 at 6pm.Â
We wish all our school families and community and refreshing vacation.Â
Regards
Janet Austen

MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL
Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school for any purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the office and is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade and particular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly marked on the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are available at the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to deposit the funds directly into the school bank account are requested to advise the office of the deposit and to use the student surname and invoice number as the payment reference. As large amounts of money pass through the school office it becomes difficult and time consuming to identify payments without this information.
Invoices via Email
You should now be receiving all your child’s invoices via email. If you need to provide the office with an updated email address, please do so as soon as possible, as some school notes and information will also be sent via email.Â
REFLECTION LETTERS are also being sent out via e-mail.
ABSENCES
Please Phone 4120 8066 and leave a message on the Absence Line in the event of a student being absent. Please phone each day your child is absent from school unless the office has been previously advised of the absence. Verbal messages by the student are not sufficient. This prevents any misunderstanding and ensures the safety of your child. Please note that, by law, we are required to report any long term unexplained absences from school which may then be investigated by the police. Â
Â
LATE ARRIVAL
The school day begins at 8:45am and all staff will begin instruction at this time. Arrivals after 8:45am are considered to be late. Late arrival should be accompanied by a note but parents may ring the office with this information. Students must first report to the office to obtain a late slip that is to be given to their teacher.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Please be aware that there are NO staff members on duty before 8 am. We have more students arriving before this time. If there is a legitimate reason for students to be at school before 8am, then contact the office to make arrangements. These students must then follow the rules by sitting quietly at the far end of the Administration Building.
SMS NOTIFICATION
The school is now utilising an SMS system to notify parents of any unexplained absence. If you receive a text message stating your child’s absence is unexplained, you can reply via text, stating your child’s name, and reason for absence. If you believe your child should be present at school, please phone the office immediately on 4120 8000.
Â
EARLY DEPARTURE
Children leaving school early must be picked up from the office. Parents may ring in advance to arrange for their child/ren to be ready for collection, or send a note to the class teacher. Your child will be given an early departure slip from the office. Please minimise disruptions to teaching and learning by organising early departures in advance and for break times.Â
Student Attendance - Same Day Absence Notification
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and for the Queensland Government.
At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parent or carer via text message when a student's absence is unexplained after the first roll marking of the day.
As home and school work together, student safety will be increased. Here are some guidelines to make this process more efficient:
- Notify the school by phone, QParents or email before 9:00am if your student is going to be absent that day. Please give a brief explanation for the absence.
- If you receive a text message regarding an unexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text, QParents or phone call.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone number and other contact details are up-to-date on the school records. This is critical, as we need to be able to contact you in case of emergency.
- If your student arrives late to school, they must go to the office for a late pass before going to their classroom. If they are leaving early, a leave pass must be obtained from the office.

Please note that under the TSS Enrolment Management Plan siblings of out of catchment enrolled students must still go through the out of catchment enrolment process.
It is essential that existing parents/carers start the out of catchment process as soon as possible to ensure their Prep 2026 student does not miss out on a place.
Year 6 Cyber Safety Awareness Presentation
Thursday 24th of July at 2pm – Parents Welcome!
Year 6 Parents and Carers are invited to attend our Year 6 Cyber Safety awareness presentation – Think U Know which will be held on Thursday 24th of July at 2pm in the hall. This presentation will be presented by the Queensland Police Service. Think U Know is an evidence-based education program led by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), delivered nationally in partnership with police and industry partners to prevent online child sexual exploitation. The program incorporates up-to-date research, real case studies and examples from reports made to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation. The program is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated online child sexual exploitation material, online grooming, image-based abuse, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour.
The program helps parents, carers and teachers get a better understanding of the types of things that child and young people SEE, SAY and DO online. For more information feel free to contact Mr Marler at the school.

Well that's term 3 pretty much done and dusted. Now for some big news. The Tuckshop refit is due to start early next term, therefore there will be some big changes. The Tuckshop will not be reopening when school resumes in term 3.Â
However, we are going to trial using the hall canteen to provide a service on Fridays (First break only). More information on exactly what this looks like will be provided shortly. (Please make sure you follow our Facebook page).Â
Massive thank you to our volunteers, who do an incredible job and another massive thank you for your ongoing support and orders. Have a great, safe holiday and we will see you in Term 3
