Our school community is always busy due to the variety of extra-curricular activities available to our students. Congratulations to the students who have given their best as part of Maryborough District Teams. Sports Rep shirts for district, region and state can be worn Wednesdays as part of the Student Dress Code. We have also had students at Cluster Band workshops as part of Instrumental Music. This Thursday, some students from the Sustainability Squad will be part of a photo shoot for images to be used by the Dept of Education to reflect variety of activities students experience in state schools.
On Friday, students born 2016 and older which commence practice for athletics field events ahead of the Senior Carnival on June 27. These sessions will take place over the next few weeks at 2pm. The carnival is held at the Jock Anderson Oval due to track space so parents will receive notification for consent in coming weeks.
150th Open Morning
A huge thank you to those who have responded to the request for assistance for the Open Morning. It will be very much a community of volunteers; parents/carers, past parents and staff and current staff.
There are activities for students on the day including a Treasure Hunt and Kidszone. Students are asked to wear their school uniform and this can be their sports house, music uniform, sustainability squad or other extra-curricular activity. There will be a Senior Performance Team performance along with a Birthday cake celebration and the drawing of the 150th raffle. For an event map and to stay uptodate with details in coming week see the 150th news item on the website.

MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL
Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school for any purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the office and is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade and particular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly marked on the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are available at the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to deposit the funds directly into the school bank account are requested to advise the office of the deposit and to use the student surname and invoice number as the payment reference. As large amounts of money pass through the school office it becomes difficult and time consuming to identify payments without this information.
Invoices via Email
You should now be receiving all your child’s invoices via email. If you need to provide the office with an updated email address, please do so as soon as possible, as some school notes and information will also be sent via email.
REFLECTION LETTERS are also being sent out via e-mail.
ABSENCES
Please Phone 4120 8066 and leave a message on the Absence Line in the event of a student being absent. Please phone each day your child is absent from school unless the office has been previously advised of the absence. Verbal messages by the student are not sufficient. This prevents any misunderstanding and ensures the safety of your child. Please note that, by law, we are required to report any long term unexplained absences from school which may then be investigated by the police.
LATE ARRIVAL
The school day begins at 8:45am and all staff will begin instruction at this time. Arrivals after 8:45am are considered to be late. Late arrival should be accompanied by a note but parents may ring the office with this information. Students must first report to the office to obtain a late slip that is to be given to their teacher.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Please be aware that there are NO staff members on duty before 8 am. We have more students arriving before this time. If there is a legitimate reason for students to be at school before 8am, then contact the office to make arrangements. These students must then follow the rules by sitting quietly at the far end of the Administration Building.
SMS NOTIFICATION
The school is now utilising an SMS system to notify parents of any unexplained absence. If you receive a text message stating your child’s absence is unexplained, you can reply via text, stating your child’s name, and reason for absence. If you believe your child should be present at school, please phone the office immediately on 4120 8000.
EARLY DEPARTURE
Children leaving school early must be picked up from the office. Parents may ring in advance to arrange for their child/ren to be ready for collection, or send a note to the class teacher. Your child will be given an early departure slip from the office. Please minimise disruptions to teaching and learning by organising early departures in advance and for break times.
Student Attendance - Same Day Absence Notification
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and for the Queensland Government.
At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parent or carer via text message when a student's absence is unexplained after the first roll marking of the day.
As home and school work together, student safety will be increased. Here are some guidelines to make this process more efficient:
- Notify the school by phone, QParents or email before 9:00am if your student is going to be absent that day. Please give a brief explanation for the absence.
- If you receive a text message regarding an unexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text, QParents or phone call.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone number and other contact details are up-to-date on the school records. This is critical, as we need to be able to contact you in case of emergency.
- If your student arrives late to school, they must go to the office for a late pass before going to their classroom. If they are leaving early, a leave pass must be obtained from the office.

150th Commemoration- School Song
A school song has been written as part of 150th commemorations. The Senior Performance Team have started learning the song to be part of a special recording session with ‘The Song Man’ Mr Josh Arnold who will be here on May 22. The lyrics are below along with a link to a backing track for any student who would like to learn the song to be able to practice at home. We are also in need of a song title which students heard about on parade Friday week 2.
Thursday 1st & Friday 2nd May, these students proudly represented the Maryborough District on the football field. Their hard work, determination, and team spirit were outstanding, making our school incredibly proud. Well done to all involved!
Pictured below this enthusiastic group of netballers represented the Maryborough District at the 10–11 years Wide Bay Netball Trials at the end of April. They gave it their all and showed great improvement with every game. Well done!

Hi everyone,
Thank you all for your ongoing support of the Tuckshop, last Friday saw our biggest day of the year so far, remember the money that is made in the Tuckshop, goes back into the school for your children so your orders been a lot.
We are still needing a few more volunteers to help out in Tuckshop. If you can assist once a week, once a fortnight, once a month or even in an oncall capacity, we would love to hear from you. (please message the P & C/Tuckshop Facebook page)
I thought it was a great time to publish the Tips below again for those that missed it in the lead up to the School Holidays last term.
Tuckshop's Top Tips for Ordering
- Ensure that child's details are correct on Qkr
- Check that order is correct i.e. items on the 'Monday Only' menu are only ordered on Monday, check the quantity of items ordered.
- Check your receipt.
- Check the 'Delivery Date' on the receipt.
- Order early, too many orders at the one time can jam the system, giving error codes. If this happens, just give it a minute and try again.
- Please inform your child if they have an order, and what they are having.
- If you child is absent, please advise tuckshop ASAP to secure a refund and save food wastage
Thanks again for Supporting the Tuckshop, Supporting your Children.
Brett
