As we reach the end of a productive Term One, I am once again impressed at the growth in students' confidence and learning.
Teaching teams and have worked to bring to life the first of the new units in English and Maths for Australian Curriculum Version 9. Our school has reaped the benefits of being part of the Fraser Coast State Schools Curriculum Network which is a group of curriculum leaders who collaborate to support Version 9 implementation. There has been presentations and scripts drafted and recording happening all around the school.
I have also been impressed with how our students have demonstrated self-responsibility and resilience as wet weather has impacted on playtime over a number of days. Â
P&C Association 2025
Last week the Annual General Meeting was held.  Meetings will continue to be 6pm on the last Tuesday of the month. A big thank you to Mrs Tara Nuttall who has taken on President even though her youngest child has graduated and Mrs Alisa Francisco has continued as Secretary. The position of Treasurer was not filled as Mrs Bree Rochford was unable to continue due to changes in work commitments. This is an urgent position to fill as without a Treasurer the Association will have to pause its fundraising activities in Semester 2 ie, uniform shop, Golf Day and Fathers' Day Stall. Please email admin@tinanass.eq.edu.au if you can assist. If a treasurer is not in place by the end of Term 2 Week 1 (24 April) the Association will have to halt any new fundraising work and commence mothballing semester 2 P&C fundraising until further notice. This may impact on Golf Day which has been an important fundraiser for Tinana for many years.Â
If you can assist please message the P&C Association/Tuckshop Facebook page or email admin@tinanass.eq.edu.au and your info will be passed on to the Association.
150th Preparations
Photo stories are being developed for display at the 150th Open Morning on May 31. These will include photos of current students and school life in 2025. Â
Contributions are invited from past students to share a photo of their story to be included in Photo stories titled  ‘ Graduates of 2000s’, ‘Graduates of 1980s-90s’ etc.  We hope that these photos will celebrate the stories of our graduates and community connections. For example their might be a family of graduates with their children who are not enrolled at school. These photos will only be display onsite at the Open Morning and then will remain part of school history. Please email your photo to events@tinanass.eq.edu.au with a  time caption by April 30.  If you have any queries please email the events@ address.
Vendors interested in having a market stall at the 150th Open Morning should also email the events@ address for a registration form.Â
The office is closed for the next two weeks. We wish everyone a refreshing break.
Term 2
School will resume on Tuesday 22 April. On Thursday April 24 our school community is invited to join senior students for an school Anzac Service at 9.30am. This will be under the Junior Covered Play Area. This service will be lead by our Year 6 cohort.Â

Student Attendance - Same Day Absence Notification
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and for the Queensland Government.
At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parent or carer via text message when a student's absence is unexplained after the first roll marking of the day.
As home and school work together, student safety will be increased. Here are some guidelines to make this process more efficient:
- Notify the school by phone, QParents or email before 9:00am if your student is going to be absent that day. Please give a brief explanation for the absence.
- If you receive a text message regarding an unexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text, QParents or phone call.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone number and other contact details are up-to-date on the school records. This is critical, as we need to be able to contact you in case of emergency.
- If your student arrives late to school, they must go to the office for a late pass before going to their classroom. If they are leaving early, a leave pass must be obtained from the office.
- Tinana State School has a Facebook page! Subscribe to get up to date information about what’s happening at school!
MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL
Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school for any purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the office and is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade and particular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly marked on the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are available at the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to deposit the funds directly into the school bank account are requested to advise the office of the deposit and to use the student surname and invoice number as the payment reference. As large amounts of money pass through the school office it becomes difficult and time consuming to identify payments without this information.
Invoices via Email
You should now be receiving all your child’s invoices via email. If you need to provide the office with an updated email address, please do so as soon as possible, as some school notes and information will also be sent via email.Â
REFLECTION LETTERS are also being sent out via e-mail.
ABSENCES
Please Phone 4120 8066 and leave a message on the Absence Line in the event of a student being absent. Please phone each day your child is absent from school unless the office has been previously advised of the absence. Verbal messages by the student are not sufficient. This prevents any misunderstanding and ensures the safety of your child. Please note that, by law, we are required to report any long term unexplained absences from school which may then be investigated by the police. Â
Â
LATE ARRIVAL
The school day begins at 8:45am and all staff will begin instruction at this time. Arrivals after 8:45am are considered to be late. Late arrival should be accompanied by a note but parents may ring the office with this information. Students must first report to the office to obtain a late slip that is to be given to their teacher.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Please be aware that there are NO staff members on duty before 8 am. We have more students arriving before this time. If there is a legitimate reason for students to be at school before 8am, then contact the office to make arrangements. These students must then follow the rules by sitting quietly at the far end of the Administration Building.
SMS NOTIFICATION
The school is now utilising an SMS system to notify parents of any unexplained absence. If you receive a text message stating your child’s absence is unexplained, you can reply via text, stating your child’s name, and reason for absence. If you believe your child should be present at school, please phone the office immediately on 4120 8000.
Â
EARLY DEPARTURE
Children leaving school early must be picked up from the office. Parents may ring in advance to arrange for their child/ren to be ready for collection, or send a note to the class teacher. Your child will be given an early departure slip from the office. Please minimise disruptions to teaching and learning by organising early departures in advance and for break times.Â

Hi all, here we are at week 10, the end of Term 1. I would like to thank you all for your continued support of the Tuckshop, it is amazing to see.
A massive thank you to the awesome Tuckshop volunteers, they do an unbelievable job week in, week out. It is greatly appreciated!
We have lost some volunteers due to employment oppotunites, so a huge congratulations to them, but it means we need a few more helpers, so that our current volunteers don't burnout. So if you can help once a week, once a fortnight or once a month, I'd love to hear from you. (please message our facebook page).
Another massive thank you for you support with the Pantry Drive, this really does make a huge dent in our costs and helps us keep prices as low as we can.
We have been informed that the refurbishment of the tuckshop is at tender stage, so fingers crossed that late term 2 may see work commence.
Below I have some pointers that may help when ordering tuckshop
Tuckshop's Top Tips for Ordering
-Ensure that child's details are correct on Qkr
-Check that order is correct i.e. items on the 'Monday Only' menu are only ordered on Monday, check the quantity of items ordered.
-Check your reciept.
-Check the 'Delivery Date' on the reciept.
-Order early, too many orders at the one time can jam the system, giving error codes. If this happens, just give it a minute and try again.
-Please inform your child if they have an order, and what they are having.
-If you child is absent, please advise tuckshop ASAP to secure a refund and save food wastage
Happy Holidays, see you in Term 2.
Bret
