As this newsletter is published the year 3 and 5 students will have completed the last of the 2025 NAPLAN tests. Well done to all students who took part. The school break timetable will return to normal next week from 24/3 with lunch from 11-12pm and afternoon tea from 1.30-2pm.Â
P&C Assocation
Next week the P&C Association will hold it's Annual General Meeting from 6pm in the staffroom. All positions are vacant. There is some further information on executive roles later in this newsletter for those who may be able to help.Â
This Association makes possible the tuckshop, and onsite uniform shop in addition to other yearly fundraising. This fundraising has gone towards major projects such as the Prep playgrounds and the Hall extension in addition to supporting student activities such as camps, excursions and incursions such as the Prep Teddy Bears' Picnic. Current major P&C projects include the refurbishment of the tuckshop which is about to go out to tender; and the 150th celebrations.Â
Staff Update
PLM Michelle Poulter has decided to step into a new chapter and take early retirement. We wish Mrs Poulter well as she embarks on further travel adventures although she may pop up as part of TLC relief staff from time to time. Ms Schaefer who has been relieving while Mrs Poulter has been on leave will continue to help out with Prep while permanent recruitment is undertaken.Â
PLM Blake Freeman has been successful in obtaining and acting Head of Special Education Services at Maryborough West SS. Whilst he undertakes this position the year 6 PLM role will be filled by Ms T from Monday to Wednesday and Mr Ralph Pendelton on Thursdays and Fridays.Â
150th Preparations
Photo stories are being developed for display at the 150th Open Morning on May 31. These will include photos of current students and school life in 2025. Did you know that current Prep students will be ‘Class of 2031’?
Contributions are invited from past students to share a photo of their story to be included in Photo stories titled  ‘ Graduates of 2000s’, ‘Graduates of 1980s-90s’ etc.  We hope that these photos will celebrate the stories of our graduates and community connections. For example their might be a family of graduates with their children who are not enrolled at school. These photos will only be display onsite at the Open Morning and then will remain part of school history. Please email your photo to events@tinanass.eq.edu.au with a  time caption by April 30.  If you have any queries please email the events@ address.
Vendors interested in having a market stall at the 150th Open Morning should also email the events@ address for a registration form.Â

MONEY COMING TO SCHOOL
Would parents please ensure that any money sent to school for any purposes other than tuckshop is sent directly to the office and is placed in an envelope with student’s name, grade and particular item or excursion they are paying for, clearly marked on the front of envelope. Pre-printed envelopes are available at the office for any payments. Parents that prefer to deposit the funds directly into the school bank account are requested to advise the office of the deposit and to use the student surname and invoice number as the payment reference. As large amounts of money pass through the school office it becomes difficult and time consuming to identify payments without this information.
Invoices via Email
You should now be receiving all your child’s invoices via email. If you need to provide the office with an updated email address, please do so as soon as possible, as some school notes and information will also be sent via email.Â
REFLECTION LETTERS are also being sent out via e-mail.
ABSENCES
Please Phone 4120 8066 and leave a message on the Absence Line in the event of a student being absent. Please phone each day your child is absent from school unless the office has been previously advised of the absence. Verbal messages by the student are not sufficient. This prevents any misunderstanding and ensures the safety of your child. Please note that, by law, we are required to report any long term unexplained absences from school which may then be investigated by the police. Â
Â
LATE ARRIVAL
The school day begins at 8:45am and all staff will begin instruction at this time. Arrivals after 8:45am are considered to be late. Late arrival should be accompanied by a note but parents may ring the office with this information. Students must first report to the office to obtain a late slip that is to be given to their teacher.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Please be aware that there are NO staff members on duty before 8 am. We have more students arriving before this time. If there is a legitimate reason for students to be at school before 8am, then contact the office to make arrangements. These students must then follow the rules by sitting quietly at the far end of the Administration Building.
SMS NOTIFICATION
The school is now utilising an SMS system to notify parents of any unexplained absence. If you receive a text message stating your child’s absence is unexplained, you can reply via text, stating your child’s name, and reason for absence. If you believe your child should be present at school, please phone the office immediately on 4120 8000.
Â
EARLY DEPARTURE
Children leaving school early must be picked up from the office. Parents may ring in advance to arrange for their child/ren to be ready for collection, or send a note to the class teacher. Your child will be given an early departure slip from the office. Please minimise disruptions to teaching and learning by organising early departures in advance and for break times.Â
Student Attendance - Same Day Absence Notification
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and for the Queensland Government.
At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parent or carer via text message when a student's absence is unexplained after the first roll marking of the day.
As home and school work together, student safety will be increased. Here are some guidelines to make this process more efficient:
- Notify the school by phone, QParents or email before 9:00am if your student is going to be absent that day. Please give a brief explanation for the absence.
- If you receive a text message regarding an unexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text, QParents or phone call.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone number and other contact details are up-to-date on the school records. This is critical, as we need to be able to contact you in case of emergency.
- If your student arrives late to school, they must go to the office for a late pass before going to their classroom. If they are leaving early, a leave pass must be obtained from the office.

Hi all,
The Tuckshop Pantry Drive is happening on the 1st of April, a flyer with the information is in the process of being distributed. Thank you for your support in keeping the tuckshop costs down so we can keep our prices down.
We have some new items added to the menu. Cheesy Garlic Bread is available first break Mondays and Fridays. Our 'Sausage on Bread' (Mondays Only) is proving to be popular and we have also added a Pizza Roll special on a Monday Only for 2nd break. All items are on Qkr.
A big congratulations to Karli, our first winner in our monthly draw for tuckshop volunteers. She won a $25 voucher to be used at Meat @ Westside, our meat
supplier. Karli is one of our new volunteers this year and is doing a fantastic job.Â
If you would like to be in the draw for next month's voucher all you need to do is become a Tuckshop Volunteer. Asked me how.Â
Thank you for supporting Tuckshop.

HARMONY DAYÂ
Harmony Day/ Week is coming up. Harmony Week in Australia will be celebrated March 18-24 with Harmony Day celebrated nationally on March 21.  Â
It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.Â
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.Â
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.Â
Above are some fascinating statistics about Australia's diversity that can be good conversation-starters:Â

KINDNESS IS COOL AT TINANA STATE SCHOOLÂ
Our week 8 Kindness Challenge involves showing kindness to our year 3 and 5 students and staff.  NAPLAN brings with it interruptions to timetables and learning and daily routines. It involves being super respectful around our year 3 and 5 classes during times of testing. As parents it might mean giving a little extra grace at home after test days. Â
Â
Our week 9 challenge is all about being kind to our pets. This might look like playing with our pets, walking the dog, bathing our pets or cleaning their homes. It may also include doing any pet related chores happily without being reminded and without complaining about it.  Â
Â
Play at the Powerhouse continues each Monday from 9:30-11. We have a different theme each week and begin with some settling in time on our play equipment and obstacle course followed by a sit down story time and song before going into a separate space and engaging in some activities promoting language, play skills and gross and fine motor development. It is a whole heap of fun and I am genuinely enjoying each week and getting to know the youngest members of our school community. I have attached some images of our ‘Jungle Themed Activities’ from last week.Â
Have a wonderful week. Â
